On your birth chart each planet and each rashi falls within a House, which illuminates the spot it occupied at the exact time when you made your earthly debut.

The sign rising in the eastern horizon at the time of birth of the native is called the 1st house ( Lagna or Ascendant ). The subsequent rashis rising after that are respectively called 2nd house, 3rd house, 4th house and so on upto 12th house till the same sign rises again.
